Can manufacturers reduce costs and lead times while maintaining high levels of customer service?

Yes, definitely.

It all starts with the mindset.

After that, it comes to planning, willingness and customer first attitude.

Reducing costs is more to do with utilizing the best value for money solution on anything you do, having the productive solution, looking for options where you can add value, where you can standardize and where you can optimize.

If one takes care of parts of the whole system and ensure that they are driving maximum value on that and producing it in the most productive way, then it becomes easier to reduce costs and lead times while maintaining high levels of customer service.

Reduce cost have another way, before you open your factory, you should buy high quality machine, high quality machine can reduce your money in the long time view. SO why not?
